Weightlifting 101

Weightlifting is an Olympic sport that offers an excellent way to increase your strength, flexibility, power and overall athleticism. Should you want to compete then regardless of age there are competitions available for all.

Weightlifting is not bodybuilding, the focus is on becoming strong and a great mover not building big muscles that would restrict your movement. As well as age categories, competitions are split into weight classifications that make it suitable for all shapes and sizes. FAQ'S

Do I need to be strong before starting Weightlifting?

No. The course is movement focussed, you will only lift weights that are appropriate for your current ability. We will work on improving your strength throughout the course.

What do I need to bring to the session?

T-shirt, shorts, joggers, and a good pair of trainers and if you have weightlifting shoes then great. Really, it’s whatever you feel most comfortable wearing to exercise and move around in.

We also recommend bringing your own bottled water and a post workout snack. A banana is a great source of complex carbohydrates for post-workout recovery.

What is I miss a session?
There will be a lot repetition during the sessions so missing the odd one or two classes will not be a problem, you'll be able to pick it up from where you left off.
